These little gems are also found in fynbos habitat. Male orange-breasted sunbirds use their striking colours to attract the drabber-coloured females. They’re a pleasure to study and recreate in bronze.

I’ve had a fair bit of luck when it comes to fly fishing, but the spotted grunter (Pomadasys commersonnii), a local saltwater species we target on fly in our estuaries, is another story!
