Potato Grouper Maquette

Bronze Potato Grouper Maquette

Epinephilis tukula

The Potato grouper is king of its coral environment – grumpy by nature, with a bulky build and easily identifiable spotted hue. The maquette was produced for the life-size bronze, but the final sculpture took on a life of its own.

I’ve had a fair bit of luck when it comes to fly fishing, but the spotted grunter (Pomadasys commersonnii), a local saltwater species we target on fly in our estuaries, is another story!
